Is Sedation Dentistry Right for Me?

Before any treatment is started, Dr. Sammons and Dr. Laurent will review your medical history to verify that sedation dentistry is appropriate for your dental treatment. While under sedation during your treatment, you will be closely monitored. If you are not a candidate for sedation dentistry, recommendations will be made for alternative treatment.

Types of Sedation Dentistry

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous Oxide (also known as laughing gas) is a safe, sedating gas that is combined with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask over the nose to help you relax and be more comfortable while receiving dental care. The effects of nitrous oxide wear off before leaving the office, so you are free to drive after your appointment and get back to your daily activities. **Complimentary at Dr. Thomas Sammons & Dr. Ann Laurent Dental Artistry

Oral Sedation

Oral Sedation involves taking a prescribed medication prior to dental treatment and provides a deeper level of sedation compared to nitrous oxide. Some patients will fall asleep with the use of oral sedation while others will experience a deep sense of relaxation while being awake. We advise that you have a friend or family member drive you to and from your appointment with the use of oral sedation. Additional nitrous oxide can also be administered throughout your procedure.

IV Sedation

IV Sedation involves the specialty of our employed CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) to administer anesthesia intravenously. IV sedation provides the deepest level of sedation compared to both nitrous oxide and oral sedation. Again, we advise that you have a friend or family member drive you to and from your appointment with the use of IV sedation.
